I am speaking of a 1969 350 chevy with 12 to 1 pop ups.

The next step is to install the ring in the appropriate bore using a piston ring squaring tool.
I am thinking maybe the ring gap on top should be placed in the middle on top and 2nd ring should be placed just opposite.

The reason to offset the ring gaps on assembly is to avoid having any gaps lined up that will increase blow by for the first few min after startup.

I ve always put the top ring gap at 9 o clock or 3 o clock 2nd 180 from that top oil ring rail another 180 and the last one another 180.
